The Trees Know Things
These revelations came to light when scientists were monitoring trees' bioelectrical activity in Italy. When a solar eclipse occurred during the experiment, sensors showed that the older trees seemed to know what was coming hours in advance, like they'd been through it before. And they shared their knowledge with the younger trees, through signals that have been described as a "wood wide web". During the eclipse the old and young trees synced their "electromes", the electrical currents that all living things have, including us. In the trees' case, the electrome can change sap flow, which is like the a tree's blood. Even tree stumps reacted to the eclipse.
So trees aren't the mute solitary giants I thought they were. What else are they whispering to each other as I go about my business? Kind of makes me look at our neighborhood trees a little differently.
Whenever I hear about "alternative" intelligence I wonder if I am in danger should these smarts be used in some nefarious activity against me. Other than a tree falling on me or triggering a heart attack by over exertion dealing with raking leaves, I'm not too concerned. Maybe I should be....
