Golden Age of the TV Repairman

"Okay now kids, settle down. The show is starting."

"Why did we have to get all dressed up just to watch TV?"

"In case grandma drops by. Thinks I can't manage my own household. Ha. I'll show her!"

"But the TV's broken."

"We paid a lot of money for this set, so by gosh we're going to sit here and watch whatever's on. Right now it's your father's reflection.

  1. In our case, it wasn't Dad's reflection...it was actually Dad...inside the TV looking out.
My Dad would repair our old TV. Somehow, he would go in through the back, figure out which one of the million tubes might be the culprit, take it to town and have it tested. If it was dead he would buy a new one, climb back inside and replace it...boom! Back in business.
