LIGHT/DARK MODE

Mystery Stone

I enountered this large-ass stone sitting in a weird place. (Another anomaly found on one of my morning walks, like the "Strange Egg Anomaly".) It was sitting right on the edge of the curb, on an ignored commercial lot, all by its lonesome. There was no landscaping rock jumble in sight that it might have strayed from. Did it fall off a truck? Maybe someone moved it just enough to get it out of the street.

I tried to move it. I was going to adopt it and take it home for my rock garden. Not at first --the rocks in my garden are all exclusively from western Kansas --picked up on long dusty walks out there and stuffed in my pockets. I also have a few massive chunks of limestone that had been resting comfortably for years in my parents' back yard.

This stone would be an outlander among the others. But it did resemble some of that limestone, so I decided I would give this big abandoned clod a home. I drove my car over there one afternoon to retrieve it, and found it was just too dang heavy.  I tried rolling it a bit, but you can't really roll a rock that's over a foot long and is heavy as, well, a rock.. I wasn't too eager to throw my back out, so I left it.

It's been a few weeks. I'm curious to see if it's still there.
