Come Hither October
Or as the winos would say, "Come Over October."
Come Over October is a so-called movement wherein you're supposed to invite friends and family to "come over" and drink all your wine.
At first glance, it sounds delightfully bacchanalistic, like something dreamed up by a merry-making band of libertines or Francophiles trying to encourage joie de vivre!
Ah, but alas. A quick dip into the Googles reveals it was created by the wine industry. They have a web site and everything, and it's all very slick, with feel-good images and words like "connection", "sharing" "friendship" and "community." It has all the joie de vivre of a corporate Christmas card.
Well I say, sure come over. I can give you a pour from an opened bottle I've had sitting in the garage that I've been needing to finish off. There could be a few cork flecks floating around it. Just drink around 'em. Otherwise, BYOB!
