I've always given props to anyone that could become a successful ventriloquist in spite of the creepy dummy they have to work with. I'm not sure why they all seem to look eerily similar...I think it has to do with the raised eyebrows and the nose. Are they all made by the same person? Remember Howdy Doody? He was of the same ilk.
Yeah, Howdy Doody was one of their kind. It's true --whoever decided that the creep factor was an essential element. I guess it adds to the humor and plays off the sense one gets that they are kind of half alive.
I got a ventriloquist doll for Christmas one year. One of the most surprising presents I ever got. Came with a little booklet with instructions for how to throw your voice and how to talk without opening your mouth. For a short while I was determined I was going to learn it, but of course I didn't. At least the doll I got was kid friendly and wasn't as leeringly creepy as the crowed in this picture.
Hi I'm Simone, my nickname is Mony and I create Monybaloney -- cartoons, videos, ramblings, etc...made from mechanically separated suspect meats. Welcome to my blog, where pandeMONYum ensues!
